Programme Overview

The Outdoor Tourism program is an exciting and highly practical one, based extensively in Tasmania’s unforgettable wilderness. Students have the opportunity to develop skills in tourism and guiding with an ecological focus. Students who love the outdoors, working with people and sharing their passion and knowledge, and who love being involved in a wide range of activities will love these courses.

Teaching and Learning Environment

Based at Drysdale campus, the course consists of a combination of lectures, field excursions and practical activities aimed at equipping students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The courses include significant practical experience in the field – guiding students visit national parks and natural/cultural heritage sites, adventure recreation students spend a substantial part of their course in areas such as state Rivers, Cradle Mountain, Lake St Clair, Freycinet and Jerusalem National Parks.


Assessment

Demonstration of skills through tasks, presentation of tours/formal presentations, written projects, assignments, small tests.

Drysdale’s campus for classrooms and library, computer facilities; Tasmanian wilderness and heritage sites for practical experience.
