Programme Overview

Horticulture is a vibrant and flourishing industry in Tasmania and is concerned with enterprises such as nursery production, landscaping and gardening, green keeping, arboriculture and flower production. To enjoy this work, and to do it well, you will need to have average strength, a liking for the outdoors and be in good health!

With a horticulture qualification you can work in areas such as:

• Landscaping businesses
• Golf courses
• Flower and herb farms

Special Features

The Horticulture courses are run on Clarence Campus, which has large grounds that the students maintain. All students have 10 weeks work experience with various businesses in Hobart, ranging from the Royal Botanical Gardens, to Local Council Parks and Gardens and local nurseries. Students completing this course have strong practical skills and theoretical knowledge.

Teaching and Learning Environment

This course is taught both in the classroom and in the outdoor environment. Classroom lessons are for theoretical study. Practical sessions take place in the outdoor environment, both on and off campus. Students work in teams for projects as well as individually.

Students also have workplace experience in a variety of places, such as Council Parks, Nurseries and the Botanical Gardens.
